Weekend Project Spotlight: A Limewashed Chimney In Stamford, CT.
Limewash has a way of completely transforming brick: softening its surface, giving it depth, and creating a timeless look that feels as natural as it is sophisticated.
This late August, our Stanwich Painting team brought that transformation to life for a Stamford homeowner. The project: a full limewash of two large exterior chimneys, using Romabio Classico Limewash tinted in a white dove hue.
From Prep to Finish
Before the first brushstroke, we fully pressure washed the brick to ensure proper adhesion. Working from the homeowner’s own mock-up, we carefully layered the limewash to achieve a full coverage finish that still carried the depth and variation unique to this product.
Because Romabio limewash is mineral-based, it bonds to the brick itself, allowing the surface to breathe naturally. The finish was left unsealed—intentionally—so the brick can breathe and the limewash can develop a graceful patina over time.
A Finish with History
Limewash isn’t new—it’s one of the world’s oldest decorative finishes, dating back thousands of years. From the farmhouses of Europe to the coastal cottages of the American South, it has been used to protect and beautify homes for generations. Its enduring appeal lies in both its practical durability and its natural, lived-in beauty.
The Stanwich Painting Difference
Limewash is equal parts craft and technique. Too heavy, and it looks painted. Too light, and it fades unevenly. That’s why Fairfield County homeowners choose Stanwich Painting—we tailor the application to match each client’s vision.
Whether you want the full, uniform coverage of this project, or a washed, aged effect where natural brick tones peek through, our team has the skill and experience to bring your aesthetic vision to life.
